2428 Municipal Charters
Section 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MARYLAND, That new Sections 12-1900
through 12-1917, inclusive, be and they are hereby added to the Anne
Arundel County Code (1967 Edition and Supplements) under Title 12,
"Licenses, Permits and Inspections," to follow immediately after Section
12-1810 thereof and to be under the new Subtitle 19, "Gas Code" to read
as follows:
Section 12-1900.
(a) The purpose of this Subtitle (which shall be administered and
enforced by the Department of Inspections and Permits, hereinafter re-
ferred to as the "Department") is to provide practical gas fitting regula-
tions for the safeguarding of persons and property by assuring the safe
and satisfactory utilization of gas.
(b) These regulations govern and regulate the construction, in-
stallation, and equipment of gas fixtures, devices, appliances and connec-
tions from the outlet of any meter or regulator supplying natural gas,
manufactured gas, or a mixture of the same; and undiluted and liquefied
petroleum gases, liquefied petroleum gas-air mixtures, or mixtures of these
gases to any building within Anne Arundel County as follows:
(1) Low pressure (not in excess of ½ pound per square inch or
14 inches water column) domestic and commercial piping systems extend-
ing from the outlet of the meter set assembly, or the outlet of the service
regulator when a meter is not provided, to the inlet connections of
appliances.
(2) The installation, connection and operation of domestic and
commercial appliances supplied at pressures of ½ pound per square inch
or less.
(c) These regulations cover all extensions of gas piping systems
in existing structures, as well as new connections and new gas fitting
installations. When a new fixture or appliance is installed it shall be vented,
if necessary, in accordance with the requirements of these regulations.
All repairs to and alterations of existing gas piping systems shall conform
with these regulations.
(d) The Director of the Department of Inspections and Permits
(hereinafter called "Director") may at any time inspect existing gas in-
stallations and require such modifications as may be necessary to put said
installation in a satisfactory condition.
(e) Adjustments to and replacement of appliances, replacement of
parts, and repairing of leaks, are considered minor repairs but such work
shall be done by persons under the GENERAL supervision of a Master
Gasfitter or Restricted Gasfitter in accordance with the provisions of
these regulations.
(f) Conditions deemed unsafe by the Director shall be made safe,
or use of unsafe equipment discontinued, upon notice to the owner or
user by the Director, and within the time specified in such notice. If
such equipment is not safe, it may be ordered removed from service by
the Director.
(g) The regulations do not include the incidental servicing of appli-
ances by a gas utility subject to regulation by the Public Service Com-
mission.
