Charter Amendment No. 28
Resolution of The Commissioners of Cambridge adopted pursuant
to the authority of Article 11E of the Constitution of Maryland and
Section 13 of Article 23A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957
Edition, as amended), title "Corporation—Municipal", to amend the
Charter of The Commissioners of Cambridge by repealing and re-
enacting, with amendments, Section 43, "Mayor, oath of office, duties,"
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Dorchester County (1961 Edi-
tion) , said Code being Article 10 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland, title "Dorchester County" subtitle "Cambridge", providing
additional powers for the Mayor.
Section 1. BE IT RESOLVED by The Commissioners of Cambridge
that the Charter of said Municipal Corporation be, and the same is hereby,
amended by repealing and reenacting said Section 43 to read as follows:
43. MAYOR, OATH OF OFFICE, DUTIES.
The Mayor-elect shall, on or before thirty days after the third Monday
in July following his election, appear before the Clerk of the Circuit Court
and make the declaration and take the oath prescribed by the Constitution,
and procuring from said clerk a certificate of the declaration and oath
taken by him as Mayor, shall return the same to the Commissioners.
The Mayor shall preside over the meetings of the board and shall
perform such other duties and functions as may be authorized or required
of him under this charter, or the amendments thereto, or by municipal
ordinances. He shall see that the ordinances are duly and faithfully ex-
ecuted and observed, and he shall, every six months, report to the Commis-
sioners the general state of the town and shall publish, in one or more
newspapers published in said town, for the information of the citizens
thereof, a statement showing the money expended during the six pre-
ceding months. The Mayor shall also make such suggestions as, in his
judgment, are proper for the wise, prudent and economical government
and management of the town, and may vote in the event of a tie vote of the
Commissioners on any question.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution shall
become effective September 16, 1969.
