2128 Joint Resolutions
Whereas, the Delegates were told by the Director-Chairman of the
State Roads Commission they could not delete by vote any part of the
interstate road program; be it hereby
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That:
(1) The General Assembly endorses the wish of the Montgomery
County Delegation to delete the entire road shown as F-4, Northern
Parkway, on the April 1967 map, preliminary Master Plan for High-
ways for Montgomery County. The deletion includes Proposed Exit
22 on the Beltway (1-495) and the Northern Freeway south of the
Beltway, also known as the "Woodside Spur", which would link the
Northern Freeway and the Maryland portion of the North Central
Freeway; and be it further
Resolved, That,
(2) This resolution be communicated to the Governor of Mary-
land, United States Senators from Maryland, and the Congressman
from the 8th Congressional District, the Maryland State Roads Com-
mission, the Montgomery County Council, the Bureau of Public
Roads of the United States Department of Transportation, and other
such appropriate officials as may be necessary to effect the sense of
the Resolution.

(Senate Joint Resolution 5)
Senate Joint Resolution requesting the State Roads Commission to
construct additional rest areas and scenic overlooks, and to pro-
vide for attractive and distinctive information centers adjacent
to the Interstate and Primary Systems of Highways AT FED-
ERAL-AID REST AREAS and to give priority to constructing
a rest area on each of the approach roads to the Chesapeake Bay
Bridge and to construct a scenic easement or overlook adjacent
to the State Highway on both the eastern and western shores
of the Chesapeake Bay.
Whereas, it is determined that the construction of rest areas and
scenic overlooks adjacent to the Interstate and Primary Systems of
Highways provide a necessary service to the traveling public and in
the general welfare of the State, and
Whereas, it is the desire of the General Assembly that the State
Roads Commission acquire land for and construct additional rest
areas and scenic overlooks to better serve the needs of the motorists,
and
Whereas, it is the desire of the General Assembly that the State
Roads Commission, with the assistance of the Maryland Economic
Development Commission, establish attractive and distinctive rest
area information centers along and adjacent to the Interstate and
Primary Systems of Highways that will provide travel assistance
to motorists as well as promote and advertise the variety of attrac-
tions within the borders of the State; now, therefore, be it
