(2) Every officer of the corporation rendering services for said
corporation for monetary remuneration.
(3) Any employer, partner or sole proprietor electing coverage
under the provisions of Section 67(4) of this Article.
(4) Every person in the service of any political subdivision or
agency thereof, under any contract of hire, express or implied, and
every official or officer thereof, whether elected or appointed, while
performing his official duties. Every person who is a member of a
volunteer fire or police department shall be deemed for the purpose
of this Act, to be in the employment of the political subdivision of
the State where the department is organized. Every person who is
a regularly enrolled volunteer member or trainee of the civil defense
corps of this State as established under the Maryland Civil Defense
Act shall be deemed, for the purposes of this Act, to be in the employ-
ment of the State.
(5) Every person performing services for remuneration in the
course of the trade, business, profession or occupation of an employer
at the time of the injury, provided such person in relation to this
service does not maintain a separate business, does not hold himself
out to and render service to the public and is not himself an employer
subject to this Act.
(6) Subject to the provisions of this section, every person regu-
larly selling or distributing newspapers on the street or to customers
at their homes or places of business. For the purposes of this Act,
such person shall be deemed an employee of any independent news
agency for whom he shall sell newspapers, or of each publisher who
engages such persons to sell or distribute its newspapers.
(c) Exemptions. The following employees are exempt from the
coverage of this Act:
(1) Any person employed as a domestic servant in a private
home by an employer who has less than two such employees regu-
larly employed 40 or more hours a week in such employment.
(2) Any person other than those defined under Section 21(c)(l)
employed for not exceeding 30 consecutive work days, to do mainte-
nance,, repair, remodelling, or similar work in or about the private
home of the employer, or, if the employer has no other employees
subject to this Act, in or about the premises where such employer
carries on his trade, business or profession.
(3) Any person performing services in return for aid or sus-
tenance only, received from any religious or charitable organization.
(4) Any person for whom a rule of liability for injury or death
is provided by the laws of the United States.
(5) Any person employed in agriculture by an employer who
has in his services less than three employees in such employment,
and whose annual payroll for such employees does not exceed $7,500.
(6) Casual employees or any employees who are employed wholly
without the State, except that for all purposes of this article, casual,
occasional or incidental employments outside of this State by the
