The Treasurer shall appoint a deputy, who shall perform such
duties as the said Treasurer may require, and for whose official
conduct said Treasurer shall be responsible, and who shall act for
said Treasurer during the Treasurer's absence; the salary of the
said Deputy shall be [$4,250.00] $5,400.00 annually and shall be
paid on a monthly basis.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the increased salary herein
provided for the Deputy Treasurer of Somerset County shall be
effective from and after the date July 1, 1969, and shall be paid to
the Deputy Treasurer for the period from and after that date.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the im-
mediate preservation of the public health and safety and having been
passed by a yea and nay vote supported by three-fifths of all the
members elected to each of the two houses of the General Assembly,
the same shall take effect from the date of its passage.

(House Bill 305)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 40 (d) (2)
of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Supple-
ment), title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact," subtitle
"State's Attorney," amending the attorneys at law and attorneys
in fact laws of this State in order to make certain corrections in
the language thereof.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 40 (d) (2) of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1969 Supplement), title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys
in Fact," subtitle "State's Attorney," be and the same is hereby re-
pealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
40.
(d) (2) The State's Attorney shall appoint a deputy State's Attor-
ney with a salary of not more than seventeen thousand five hundred
dollars ($17,500.00) annually; the deputy State's Attorney is to per-
form such work as the State's Attorney may require.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.
