State Board to conduct examinations, or said Board may designate
a sub-board to conduct such examinations. Said Board of Examiners
is authorized to incur all expense necessary to carry out, in a prompt
and efficient manner, the provisions of this subtitle, and to pay the
same out of any money in the hands of the treasurer of said Board;
except, however, said Board of Examiners shall not incur any ex-
pense or obligation for which the State of Maryland shall be liable.
(b) In the case of an applicant for a certificate of qualification
who has been duly licensed according to the laws of another state
to practice the occupation of a barber, service as [an apprentice]
a journeyman shall be waived and the applicant shall be entitled to
apply promptly for a certificate of qualification. Every person from
another state who after June 1, 1965, desires to become engaged in
the occupation of a barber in this State shall be required to furnish
evidence satisfactory to the Board that he is of good moral char-
acter; and that he has successfully completed a course of twelve
hundred (1,200) hours in an accredited barber school in another
state.

(b) Every person who for less than two years prior to June
1, 1957, has engaged in the business of a barber in this State, shall
within three months after June 1, 1957, register with the Board
as [an apprentice] a journeyman and pay a fee of two dollars ($2)
for such registration. Every such person shall receive credit for
any time spent in a barber school or college. Every person registered
herein shall as soon as he has completed two years service as
[an apprentice] a journeyman be entitled to apply for a certifi-
cate of qualification as a barber upon payment of the fee therefor.
(c) Every person who after June 1, 1957, becomes engaged in
the occupation of a barber in this State shall first register with the
Board as [an apprentice] a journeyman and pay a fee of ten dollars
($10.00) for such registration and shall serve as such [apprentice]
journeyman for at least two years before he shall be entitled to take
the examination for a certificate of qualification as a barber. Any
person who has been registered with the Board as [an apprentice]
a journeyman as provided herein for a period of greater than two
years shall be required to renew his registration by paying an addi-
tional fee of five dollars ($5.00) for each additional period of one
year for which he is registered as [an apprentice] a journeyman
after the first two years of registration as [an apprentice] a jour-
neyman. Every person who after June 1, 1965, desires to become
engaged in the occupation of a barber in this State shall be re-
quired to furnish evidence satisfactory to the Board that he is of
good moral character; and that he has successfully completed a
course of twelve hundred (1,200) hours in a barber school licensed
and accredited under this subtitle; or that he has completed at
least twelve hundred (1,200) hours of instruction combining theory
and practical subjects under the supervision of a master barber duly
licensed under this subtitle.
