CHAPTER 544
(Senate Bill 107)

AN ACT to add new Section 689B to Article 43 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement Volume and 1969 Supple-
ment), title "Health," subtitle "Radiation Control," to follow im-
mediately after Section 689A thereof, prohibiting the establish-
ment of nuclear material production plants PLANTS OR FACILI-
TIES FOR THE REPROCESSING OR RECOVERY OF NU-
CLEAR FUEL OR RELATED MATTER and nuclear waste
material burial grounds or storage facilities.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 689B be and it is hereby added to Article 43 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement Volume and
1969 Supplement), title "Health," subtitle "Radiation Control," to
follow immediately after Section 689A thereof, and all to read as
follows:

689B.

(a)    It is unlawful to establish any plant or facility to be used
for the production of special nuclear material, or nuclear fuel, within

the State. The meaning of of terms used in this section shall be as

defined in the U.S. Atomic Energy Act of 1954 as amended RE-

PROCESSING OR RECOVERY OF NUCLEAR FUEL, BLANKET,
OR RELATED MATERIAL WITHIN THIS STATE.

(b)    It is unlawful to establish any permanent storage facility,
burial ground or other installation for the long term storing of
waste nuclear materials or their byproducts while awaiting radio-
active decay, within the State. This subsection does not prohibit
temporary storage of used nuclear plant fuel as necessary incident
to its subsequent shipment out of the State
EXCEPT THAT TEM-
PORARY STORAGE SHALL NOT EXCEED TWO YEARS.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1970.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 15-13 (a)
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Baltimore City (1969 Edition,
being Article 4 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland),
title "Baltimore City," subtitle "People's Court," to revise the
schedule of costs for the People's Court of Baltimore City.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
