Marvin Mandel, Governor                        1541

(b)  Incorporated cities, towns, and municipalities may by ordi-
nance permit the operation within their respective jurisdiction of
any motor bus with a maximum outside width of not to exceed 102
inches.

(c)    Nothing in this section shall be construed to prevent the
operation of passenger buses upon the highways of this State which
are designated as the State Primary System, but not to include those
highways which are part of the National System of Interstate and
Defense Highways, having an overall width of 102 inches, exclusive
of safety equipment. If federal law and regulations thereunder per-
mit the operation of passenger buses of widths in excess of 96 inches
on the National System of Interstate and Defense Highways, the
State Roads Commission, by special or general order, may permit
the operation of passenger buses having an overall width of 102
inches, exclusive of safety equipment, on the federal interstate and
defense highways.

§ 14-103. Projecting loads on passenger vehicles.

No passenger-type vehicle shall be operated on any highway with
any load carried thereon extending beyond the line of the fenders on
the left side of the vehicle or extending more than 6 inches beyond
the line of the fenders on the right side thereof.

§ 14-104. Height and length of vehicles and loads.

(a)    No vehicle including any load thereon shall exceed a height
of 13 feet 6 inches, provided, however, the users of highways on
which bridges with a clearance of less than 13'6" are located shall
save harmless the owners of the bridges from any cause of action
instituted against the owners for any damage caused by colliding
with the bridges provided the damage is the proximate result of the
height of the bridge or bridges.

(b)    No single unit truck, including the load thereon, shall ex-
ceed 40 feet in length, inclusive of front and rear bumpers, and no
other vehicle and no combination of vehicles including the load there-
on shall exceed 55 feet in length inclusive of front and rear bumpers,
except as otherwise provided in this section.

(c)    A tractor and semitrailer combination, engaged in the trans-
portation of motor vehicles, shall not exceed 55 feet in length inclu-
sive of front and rear bumpers, but this limitation shall be exclusive
of the overhang of the transported vehicles.

(d)    The provisions of subsection (b) shall not apply to:

(1)    Vehicles or combinations of vehicles engaged in the trans-
portation of utility poles by or for any public utility company;

(2)    Vehicles or combinations of vehicles engaged in the trans-
portation of piling and/or poles or mill logs; or

(3)    Vehicles or combinations of vehicles engaged in the trans-
portation of boats or vessels commonly known as crew or rowing
shells for use in interscholastic or intercollegiate rowing contests.

(e)    Nothing in this section prohibits the transportation, by a
combination of vehicles, of articles impossible of dismemberment
which do not exceed 70 feet in length.
