(b) The driver of a vehicle approaching a yield sign if required
for safety to stop shall stop before entering the cross walk on the
near side of the intersection or, if there is no cross walk, at a clearly
marked stop line, but if none, then at the point nearest the inter-
secting roadway where the driver has a view of approaching traffic
on the intersecting roadway.

§ 11-706. Overtaking and passing school bus.

(a)    The driver of a vehicle upon meeting or overtaking from
either direction any school bus which has stopped or is stopping on
the highway for the purpose of receiving or discharging passengers
shall come to a full stop 10 feet from the rear of the school bus (if the
vehicle is approaching the school bus from its rear) or from the front
of the school bus (if the vehicle is approaching the school bus from its
front) when there is in operation on the school bus the alternately
flashing red lights specified in Section 12-218, and the driver shall not
proceed until the school bus resumes motion or the alternately flash-
ing red lights are no longer actuated.
THE PROVISIONS OF THIS
SUBSECTION SHALL NOT APPLY TO SCHOOL BUSES OP-
ERATING IN BALTIMORE CITY.

(b)    Every school bus shall bear upon the front and rear thereof
plainly visible signs containing the words "school bus" in letters not
less than 8 inches in height, and in addition shall be equipped with
red visual signals meeting the requirements of Section 12-218. The
red signals shall be actuated by the driver of a school bus whenever
but only whenever the bus is stopping on a highway for the purpose
of receiving or discharging passengers.

(c)    When a school bus is being operated upon a highway for
purposes other than the actual transportation of children either to
or from school or in connection with school activities, all markings
and registration thereon indicating "school bus" shall be covered or
concealed.

(d)    The driver of a vehicle upon a highway with separate road-
ways need not stop upon meeting or passing a school bus which is
on a different roadway.

(e)    The driver of a vehicle need not stop upon meeting or pass-
ing a school bus which is stopped without its alternately flashing
red lights actuated, in a loading zone whose location has been ap-
proved by either the superintendent of schools in the local school
system in which the school bus loading zone is located, the Maryland
State Police, or the local police department.

Part VIIISpeed Restrictions
§ 11-801. Basic rules and maximum limits.

(a)    No person shall drive a vehicle on a highway at a speed
greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions and hav-
ing regard to the actual and potential hazards existing. In every
event speed shall be controlled as necessary to avoid colliding with
any person, vehicle, or other conveyance on or entering the highway
in compliance with legal requirements and the duty of all persons to
use due care.

(b)    Except when a special hazard exists that requires lower
speed for compliance with subsection (a) of this section, the limits
