tained by the judgment creditor when and if the identity of either
or both persons is established, and the whereabouts of either or both
persons is established, and shall be entitled to recover the same out
of any funds which would be payable in respect to the death or
injury under any policy of insurance which was in force at the time
of the accident and if more is recovered and collected in any such
action than the amount paid out of the fund by reason of the judg-
ment the Treasurer shall pay the balance after reimbursing the fund,
to the judgment creditor. The Board may bring such an action
against either or both persons within six months after the identity
of either or both persons is established or the whereabouts of either
or both persons is established notwithstanding any other statute of
limitations.
§ 7-627.1. Validity of assignment of judgment.
No assignment of judgment under this part shall be deemed in-
valid because it is assigned to the Commissioner rather than to the
Board; nor shall any application, action, or judgment under sections
7-620 through 7-627 be deemed invalid because directed to, or in-
stituted against, or recovered from, the Commissioner rather than
the Board; but in every instance the Board shall be deemed to be
substituted in place of the Commissioner wherever reference is made
to the latter in the assignment, application, action, or judgment
§ 7-628. Employment of attorneys and others to collect money due;
distribution of moneys recovered.
The Board is authorized to engage the services of attorneys and
other persons as deemed necessary or desirable for the purpose of
suing for, enforcing, collecting, and taking any other action for the
collection of moneys due to the Commissioner, Board or Treasurer on
any right, claim, agreement, judgment, assignment, and other
obligation arising out of the application of this part. After repay-
ment to the Commissioner, Board, or Treasurer of all sums paid
from the fund and all moneys due to the Commissioner, Board, and
Treasurer on any claim, agreement, judgment, assignment, or other
obligation, the Commissioner, Board, or Treasurer may assign to
the original claimant, judgment creditor, or other person entitled
thereto all of the right, title, and interest the Commissioner, Board,
or Treasurer has in and to the balance due upon the obligation.
Any attorney or other person so engaged shall not be deemed an
employee of the Fund or the State of Maryland, shall not be subject
to the merit system laws as contained in Article 64A of this Code,
and shall not have any right to continued employment in this capacity.
The compensation of an attorney or other person engaged for services
rendered shall be deemed an expense of the Board and shall be paid
out of the moneys recovered on the obligation in connection with
which the services were rendered, upon terms authorized by the
Board.
§ 7-629. Registration, etc., not restored until fund is reimbursed.
(a) Where the license or driving privileges of any person, or the
registration of a motor vehicle registered in his name, have been
suspended or revoked under the Motor Vehicle Financial Responsi-
bility Law of this State, and the Treasurer has paid from the fund
any amount in settlement of a claim or towards satisfaction of a
