or revoke the person's license or driving privilege until he does ap-
pear for a hearing as requested. Notice to appear shall be complete
7 days after mailing, postage prepaid, to the last address shown in
the department's records.
§ 6-207. Department may require reexamination.
If a licensee is involved in an accident resulting in the death of
another, or if the department has good cause to believe that a licensee
is incompetent or otherwise not qualified to be licensed, the depart-
ment upon written notice of at least 7 days to the licensee may
require him to submit to an examination. Upon the conclusion of
the examination the department shall take action as may be appro-
priate and may suspend or revoke the license of the person or permit
him to retain the license, or may issue a license subject to restrictions
as permitted under section 6-113. Refusal or neglect of the licensee
to submit to the examination may be ground for suspension or rev-
ocation of his license.
§ 6-208. Period of suspension; restoration of revoked license.
(a) The department shall not suspend a driver's license or priv-
ilege to drive a motor vehicle on the public highways for a period
of more than 1 year, except as permitted under section 6 205.2;
but the department, after notice and hearing, may suspend for an
indefinite period the license of a person whose physical or mental
condition is such that he cannot drive safely. The provisions of this
subsection shall not apply to or affect the suspension of licenses for
failure to comply with the financial responsibility provisions of this
article.
(b) Any person whose license or privilege to drive a motor vehicle
on the public highways has been revoked is not entitled to have the
license or privilege renewed or restored unless the revocation was for
a cause which has been removed, except that after the expiration of
6 months in cases of revocation for refusal to submit to a chemical
test under the provisions of section 6 205.1, after the expiration of 1
year in cases of second or subsequent revocations, and in all other
revocation cases after the expiration of 3 months from the date on
which the revoked license was surrendered to and received by the
department, the person may apply for a new license as provided by
law, and the department may then issue a new license if it is satisfied
after investigation of the character, habits, and driving ability of
the person that it will be safe to grant him the privilege of driving
a motor vehicle on the public highways. In determining whether to
issue a new license the department shall require the applicant to sub-
mit to examinations the department deems appropriate.
§ 6-208.1. Reexamination after suspension or revocation under
point system.
A person whose license has been suspended or revoked under the
Maryland point system shall not have his license reinstated until he
has passed to the satisfaction of the department a reexamination of
the type specified in section 6-110(a).
