Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1969.

CHAPTER 216
(Senate Bill 312)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 97 (f)
of Article 52 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Justices of the Peace," subtitle "Trial Magis-
trates System," to fix by law the annual compensation of com-
mitting magistrates in Prince George's County, repealing REVIS-
ING the authority of the County Commissioners to fix such sal-
aries, and relating generally, thereto.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 97 (f) of Article 52 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1968 Replacement Volume), title "Justices of the Peace," sub-
title "Trial Magistrates System," be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

97.

(f) In Prince George's County, the Governor, by and with the
advice and consent of the Senate, shall appoint justices of the peace,
at large, who shall be designated committing magistrates of the
People's Court of Prince George's County and who shall have all the
powers and jurisdiction vested by law in justices of the peace other
than trial magistrates and substitute trial magistrates. The com-
mitting magistrates shall receive an annual salary (as set by the
County Commissioners) of BUT NOT TO BE LESS THAN six thou-
sand one hundred dollars ($6,100).
FIVE THOUSAND THREE
HUNDRED DOLLARS ($5,300). The committing magistrates shall
sit at such times and places and shall perform such duties as are
assigned to them by the judges of the People's Court. In the conduct
and administration of their affairs they shall conform to such prac-
tices and procedures, consistent with law, as are prescribed by the
judges of the People's Court with the approval of the judges thereof.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1969.
