Sec. 14. And be it further enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland,
That Sections 292 and 294 of Article 43 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition, 1965 Replacement Volume and
1968 Supplement), title "Health," subtitle "Registered Nurses and
Practical Nurses," be and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, all to read as follows:

292.

(a)  The Governor, upon the recommendation of the Secretary of
Health and Mental Hygiene,
shall appoint the Board consisting of
five members. The members of the Board holding office on June 1,
1967, shall serve the balance of the terms for which they were
appointed. Thereafter the term of office for members of the Board
shall be three years. No member shall be appointed to more than
three consecutive terms. The Board shall be part of the Department
of Health and Mental Hygiene.

(b)   On expiration of the term of any Board member, the Mary-
land Nurses Association shall submit to the Governor and to the
Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene,
a list of five of its members
qualified to serve on the Board. Appointment shall be made from this
list. Vacancies occurring on the Board shall be filled for the unex-
pired terms by the Governor in the manner aforesaid. An additional
list of five names shall be furnished to the Governor and to the
Secretary of Health and Mental Hygiene
by the Maryland Nurses
Association upon [his] the Governor's request.

(c)   The Governor may, after notice and an opportunity for hear-
ing, and with the advice of the Secretary of Health and Mental
Hygiene,
remove any member from the Board for neglect of any
duty required by law or for incompetency or unprofessional or dis-
honorable conduct.

294.

(a) The Board shall have the following powers and duties:

(1)  To adopt and, from time to time, revise such rules and regu-
lations not inconsistent with the law, as may be necessary to enable
it to carry into effect the provisions of this subtitle.

(2)  To prescribe standards for education programs preparing
persons for licensure under this subtitle.

(3)  To provide for surveys of such programs at such times as it
may deem necessary.

(4)  To maintain a current list of institutions whose programs
meet the requirements of this subtitle and of the Board.

(5)   To examine, license, and renew the licenses of qualified appli-
cants.

(6)  To conduct hearings upon charges calling for discipline of a
licensee or denial, revocation or suspension of a license.

(7)  To cause the prosecution of all persons violating this subtitle
and to have power to incur necessary expenses therefor.

(8)  To keep records of all of its proceedings.
