CHAPTER 74
(Senate Bill 337)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 8 (5) of
Article 76 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement
Volume), title "Publication of Laws," to provide that the definition
of "newspaper" applies to Garrett County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 8 (5) of Article 76 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1965 Replacement Volume), title "Publication of Laws," be and it
is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:

8.

(5) It shall be entitled to be entered as second-class matter in
the United States mail [, provided that nothing contained herein
shall apply to Garrett County].

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1969.

Approved March 24, 1969.

CHAPTER 75

(Senate Bill 488)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 39A of
Article 26 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Supplement),
title "Courts," subtitle "Circuit Courts for the Counties—Court
Stenographers," to increase the compensation for court stenog-
raphers for Circuit Court for Garrett County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 39A of Article 26 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1968 Supplement), title "Courts," subtitle "Circuit Courts for the
Counties—Court Stenographers," be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

39A.

The judge or judges of the Circuit Court for Garrett County is
authorized and empowered to appoint a stenographer at a compen-
sation not to exceed [$5,000.00] $6,500.00, to be paid by the County
Commissioners of Garrett County. The stenographer shall have
authority to take and transcribe the testimony given before the grand
jury in Garrett County, and all of the testimony so taken and tran-
scribed shall be for the exclusive use and benefit of the grand jury
and the State's Attorney of Garrett County unless otherwise ordered
by the court.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1969.
