(5) the amendment to the Charter of the City of Bowie enacted by
said Resolution became and is hereby declared to have become effective
the 25th day of February, 1969, and now constitutes Amendment No. 6
thereto.

Charter Amendment No. VI
A Resolution of the Council of the City of Bowie, Maryland,
adopted pursuant to the authority of Article HE of the Constitution
of Maryland and Section 13 of Article 23A of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1957 Edition, as amended) to amend Section 3, entitled
"The Council," and Section 14, entitled "The Mayor" of the Charter
of the City of Bowie, said Sections being Section 5-3 and 5-14, re-
spectively, of Subtitle 5 of Article 17 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland (1963 Edition) which Article contains in whole or
in part the Charter of the City of Bowie, by repealing and re-enacting
with amendments said Section 3 providing for a Council consisting
of a Mayor and six Councilmen elected and holding office for a term
of two years, and Section 14 providing for the selection and term of
two years for the Mayor.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF BOWIE,
MARYLAND:
Section 1. That the Charter of said municipal corporation be and the
same is hereby amended by repealing Section 3 and Section 14 and re-
enacting in lieu thereof new Section 3 and new Section 14 to read as
follows:
3. The Council (Number, Selection, Term.) All legislative powers of
the City shall be vested in a Council consisting of a Mayor and [four]
six Councilmen [except from the Monday following the election in April
1964 until the Monday following the election in April, 1965, the Council
shall consist of a Mayor and five Councilman], Such Councilmen shall be
elected as hereinafter provided and shall hold office for a term of two
years or until Councilmen elected to succeed them take office. The regular
term of Councilmen shall expire on the first Monday in April following
the election of their successors. [Commissioners] Councilmen holding of-
fice at the time this Charter Amendment becomes effective shall continue
to hold office for the term for which they were elected, [except that their
term of office shall expire on the first Monday in April following the elec-
tion of their successors instead of the first Monday in June as provided
by Section 109 of the repealed Charter of the Town of Bowie].
14. The Mayor (Selection and Term.) The Mayor shall be elected as
hereinafter provided and shall hold office for a term of two years or until
his successor is elected and qualified. The Newly elected Mayor shall take
office on the first Monday in April following an election. The [President
