CHAPTER 749
(House Bill 1219)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 98B (5)
(a), (10)(a) and (11)(a) of Article 98B of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1968 Replacement Volume and 1968 Supplement)
title "Justices of the Peace," subtitle "Trial Magistrates System,"
respectively increasing the salaries of the Chief Judge and Associ-
ate Judges, Chief Clerk, and Deputy Clerk, of the People's Court
for Anne Arundel County.

(Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 98B(5)(a), (10)(a) and (11)(a) of Article 98B of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Replacement Volume and
1968 Supplement), title "Justices of the Peace," subtitle "Trial
Magistrates System," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, and to read as follows:

98B.

5(a) The Governor shall designate one of the judges of said court
as chief judge and administrative officer who shall receive an annual
salary of [eighteen] twenty NINETEEN thousand five hundred dol-
lars [$18,5001 ($20,500) ($19,500.00). The other full-time judges
shall receive an annual salary of [eighteen] twenty NINETEEN
thousand dollars [($18,000)] ($20,000) ($19,000.00).

10(a) There shall be a chief clerk of the People's Court who shall
be appointed by the chief judge, receive an annual salary of [nine]
eleven TEN thousand dollars [($9,000.00)], ($11,000.00) ($10,000.00)
and give bond with corporate surety, conditioned upon the proper
performance of his duties, in such amount as the chief judge shall
prescribe, the premium of which shall be paid by the county com-
missioners.

11(a) In addition to the chief clerk, there shall be a deputy chief
clerk, who shall receive a minimum annual salary of seven thousand
five hundred dollars [($7,000)] ($7,500), two (2) senior clerks of
the People's Court who shall receive minimum annual salaries of
forty-five hundred dollars ($4,500), three (3) junior clerks who shall
receive minimum annual salaries of thirty-five hundred dollars
($3,500), five (5) constables who shall receive minimum annual
salaries of thirty-five hundred dollars ($3,500), and such additional
employees as the chief judge may from time to time deem necessary
who shall receive such salaries as are provided in the annual county
budget. The chief clerk with the approval of the chief judge, shall
make the appointments to all such positions and shall supervise
and direct the work thereof.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1969.
