CHAPTER 632
(House Bill 40)

AN ACT to add new Section 106 (b-1) to Article 77 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement Volume and 1968 Supple-
ment), title "Public Education," subtitle "Teachers' Certificates,
Salaries and Pensions," to follow immediately after Section 106 (b)
thereof to credit teachers with time spent in the military service
for purposes of salary.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 106 (b-1) be and it is hereby added to Article 77 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement Volume and 1968
Supplement), title "Public Education," subtitle "Teachers' Certifi-
cates, Salaries and Pensions," to follow immediately after Section
106(b) thereof and to read as follows:

106.

(b-1). Any teacher entering the military service of the United
States on an active basis shall be credited for salary purposes with,
this time spent on active duty provided he was a teacher in the public
schools in this State upon FOR AT LEAST TWO YEARS IMMEDI-
ATELY PRIOR TO entering the military service and he becomes
a teacher within one year after discontinuance of his military
service. Upon returning to teaching the teacher's salary for State
aid purposes shall be that specified for the year of teaching under
subsection (b) of this section as that equaling the total of the years
of active teaching plus the time spent in the military service. No
teacher shall receive credit for more than five consecutive years of
military service.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1969.

Annotated Code of Maryland (1968 Replacement Volume), title
"Landlord and Tenant," to follow immediately after Section 40
thereof and to be under the new subtitle "Tenants' Deposits," to
provide for the disposition and return of tenants' deposits and
