                                           answer unto William Polke of this –

County Cooper of a plea of Trespass of the Case &a – And whereupon

the Said William p^r Sam Worthington his Attorney Comes & Saith y^t

whereas the Said George on or about the tenth day of April in the

year of our Lord 1693 at Minokin within the Jurisdiction of this

Court became indebted unto the sd William in the just Sum of four

hundred pounds of tobacco it being the ball of an acco^t, and the

Said George being indebted in manner & forme as afd did upon

himself assume & faithfully promise that the afd Sum of 400 lb

tob he would well & truely Content & pay when thereunto required.

Nevertheless the sd George nor the sd Ephraim to the said William

the sd Sum of tobacco hath not paid though often thereunto desired

but the Same to doe hath refused & Still doth refuse to the great loss

& damage of the Said William of Eight hundred pounds of tobacco

and thereupon he brings this Sute &a.                          John Doe

        Thomas Jones of this County being Sumoned pursuant to an

Order of y^e Govern^r & Counsel to appear this Court then & there to

give Security for two Negroes, &ca which as sd was illegally brought

from Barbadoes into this County, w^ch Security was to be given to &

for y^e use & Safety of one Edward Willy Merc^ht in Barbadoes w^ch Security

being demanded the sd Jones & one Ephraim Wilson in open Court [ ]

affirmed that the foresd Security was allready given into the Prov^l
