Therefore Comand ws give that the Sheriff of this County Sumons twelve good & Lawfull Men of his Balywick that the matter in hand might be the better understood a list or pannel whereof are returned as followeth (viz) Rowland Beavins, John Browne, Robert Crouch, Wm Alexander Wm Wallace, Wm Parker, Jno Parramore Charles Nicholson, Tho. Gillett, James Henderson Warren Hadder, George Lane, 12) who being duely returned Sumoned were Sworn upon the holy Evangelists who having heard the totall proceeding & Evidences , receives their Charge & are Sent forth to determine the matter. And this day (viz) the day afd Came the afd Jurors of that afd Jury betwixt sd Matie & Pope Who being calld the Jurors being prticularly Calld prticularly by their Names were if the were agreed & being all Agreed the Verdict is delivered & read in Court as followeth Wee of the Jury find John Pope guilty of this Indictmt Rowland Beavins foreman Which Verdict the Court Ordered to be Entered & Confirms the Same
His Matie agt Ordered that Thomas Oxford be taken Tho Oxford }into the Custody of the sheriff of this County & ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ that sd sheriff doe at ye whipping place give him tenn lashes on his bare back well laid on congruous to former order &ca. Coppy of which Order was given to the sheriff who made return of sd Order Executed. // Memorandum that four Proclamations pr sheriff was read in Court (viz) one Concerning the proroguing the Assembly. one setting import & where goods brought by land from Pennsilvania should be Sold, one for the Stile of all Precepts in the Kings Name, & One touching Coopers & the Gage of Casks &ca.
His Matie. agt Somerset County Ss. Wm. Basson.dft} The Grand Jury for the body of this County ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ on their Oaths doe present Wm Basson - of this County for that the Said Wm. Sometime in the year of or Lord 1694 at the SeaSide within the Jurisdiction of this Court three hhds of Tobacco did falsely pack, and the Same so Packt was vended and paid by Thomas Oxford of this County to mr John Webb to ye decay of Trade, the Evil example of others & agt the Peace &ca. Dent Clk prsentmts. The Indictmt being read, to which the sd William pleaded not guilty Whereupon the Court Ordrs the Sheriffe of this County to bring here 12 good & lawfull Men his balywick that the matter in hand might be the better understood. A List or pannel whereof are then returned (viz) Henry Hudson.
