SPIRO T. AGNEW, Governor                       481

upon ballots the names of the one hundred and twenty-two jurors,
and after carefully folding the ballots separately, to place them in a
box, with a sliding top, and the clerk shall draw the ballots there-
from, one at a time, without looking into the box, and the first
twenty-two names drawn, with the foreman previously appointed,
shall constitute the grand jury, and the next twenty-five names
drawn shall constitute the first jury panel and the remaining seventy-
five names shall be thrice divided into groups of twenty-five names
constituting panels two, three and four, for the term of court, and the
name of no person disqualified if drawn shall invalidate the selec-
tion or drawing, but such error when discovered may be corrected
by drawing from the appropriate box another person in place of
the person so improperly selected or drawn, and if the foreman so
selected after having been sworn should die, or for any cause be
excused by the court, the judge or judges after drawing another
name to be placed upon the panel of grand jurors, as provided in this
section, may select and appoint any one of the twenty-three persons
constituting the grand jury as foreman in place of the foreman so
dead or excused. It is understood upon passage of this section that
although there are to be three terms of court with new petit jury
panels picked for each term, that grand juries are only to be chosen
twice yearly, i.e., at the beginning of the [April and October]
March and September terms, and that there are to be four jury
panels for each term instead of two. After the [October]
September drawing of the one hundred and [twenty-two] twenty-
three
jurors from the panel of three hundred names, one hundred
additional names are to be selected in the same proportion as the
three hundred names were selected from the various councilmanic
districts and placed in the box. Under this system, the four panels
of twenty-five persons each selected for the [January] December
term will be drawn from the remainder same three hundred names
selected in [October] September plus the one hundred additional
names that were placed in the box after the [October] September
drawing. The [April] March term then will start over again with
three hundred new names selected from the various councilmanic
districts to be placed in the respective drawers in the proportion
herein provided for, another one hundred and [twenty-two] twenty-
three
names drawn, a new grand jury selected, and four new panels
of petit jurors.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1968.

Approved April 10, 1968.
