CHAPTER 375
(House Bill 1137)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 12-15(a)
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Prince George's County (1963
Edition and 1967 Supplement), being Article 17 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Prince George's County,"
subtitle "Court Officers," providing for an increase in the salary
of law clerks and for setting the compensation for bailiffs, court
criers, and doorkeepers and the source of their compensation.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 12-15 (a) of the Code of Public Local Laws of Prince
George's County (1963 Edition and 1967 Supplement), being Article
17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland, title "Prince
George's County," subtitle "Court Officers," be and it is hereby re-
pealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

12-15. Court Officers.

(a) Appointment; compensation. In Prince George's County the
court officers appointed pursuant to Article 4, Section 9 of the Consti-
tution of Maryland, shall be law clerks, bailiffs, court criers, and
doorkeepers. The law clerks shall receive an annual compensation of
not in excess of [five] six thousand [$5,000] $6,000 dollars each.
The bailiffs [shall receive a monthly compensation of two hundred
fifty ($250.00) dollars each. Each court crier shall receive fifteen
($15.00) dollars per diem for each day's attendance and each door-
keeper shall receive ten ($10.00) dollars per diem for each day in
attendance.] , court criers and doorkeepers shall receive such com-
pensation as the County Commissioners of Prince George's County
may from time to time prescribe after consultation with the court.
Said compensation shall be paid by the [clerk of said court as part
of the expenses of his office, as is provided by law regarding salaries
paid to personnel of the clerk's office, provided, however, should for
any reason there not be sufficient funds from the receipts of the
Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court, then and in that case, the
County Commissioners of Prince George's County are authorized to
pay said compensation or to provide for the deficiency.] County
Commissioners of Prince George's County, which shall be provided
for in the annual levy and paid as other expenses and salaries are
paid for the conduct of the business of said Circuit Court.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1968.
