placement Volume), title "Insurance Code," subtitle "Unfair
Trade Practices," to prohibit the use of insurance as an induce-
ment to purchase other goods, securities, commodities, services,
or subscriptions to periodicals even where a bona fide premium
is paid by the insured, AND EXCEPTING CERTAIN PERSONS
AND TRANSACTIONS.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 224A(a) of Article 48A of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1964 Replacement Volume), title "Insurance Code," sub-
title "Unfair Trade Practices," be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

224A.

(a) No insurer shall directly or indirectly, or by any of its
agents or representatives, participate in any plan to offer or effect
any kind or kinds of life insurance, health insurance, or annuities
in this State as an inducement to, or in combination with, the pur-
chase by the public of any goods, securities, commodities, services,
or subscriptions to periodicals [, except upon the payment of a
bona fide premium by the insured.].

(B) EXCEPTION. THIS SECTION SHALL NOT APPLY
TO INSURANCE ON THE LIFE OF A DEBTOR PURSUANT
TO OR IN CONNECTION WITH A SPECIFIC LOAN OR OTHER
CREDIT TRANSACTION, OR INSURANCE ON A DEBTOR TO
PROVIDE INDEMNITY FOR PAYMENTS BECOMING DUE
ON A SPECIFIC LOAN OR OTHER CREDIT TRANSACTION
WHILE THE DEBTOR IS DISABLED AS DEFINED IN THE
POLICY; OR TO THE INSURANCE INCLUDED IN THE
MEMBERSHIPS OF AN AUTOMOBILE CLUB AS DEFINED
IN ARTICLE 66½, SECTION 320A.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1968.

AN ACT to add new Section 387A and 387B to Article 48A of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement Volume), title
"Insurance Code," subtitle "Life Insurance and Annuities," to fol-
low immediately after Section 387 thereof, defining wholesale life
insurance and requiring compliance with regulations to be issued
by the Insurance Commissioner.
