Attorney, or as authorized by law, and under the direction of the
State's Attorney, may present cases to the grand juries, sign indict-
ments and criminal informations and perform such other acts and
duties in relation to the grand juries and in the operation of the
office as are necessary and proper.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That nothing in this act con-
cerning the salary of the State's Attorney of Prince George's County
shall be construed or applied to affect the salary of the State's Attor-
ney of the County who is in office on the effective date of this act, for
the remainder of the term in which he then is serving. The increase
in salary provided in this Act for the State's Attorney of Prince
George's County shall take effect at the beginning of the term of the
State's Attorney which begins next after the effective date of this
Act.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1968.

(House Bill 120)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 119(k)
of Article 52 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Justices of the Peace," subtitle "Trial Magis-
trates System," to require the substitute judges of the People's
Court for Prince George's County to sit when and where directed
by the Chief Judge of the People's Court for Prince George's
County and to provide that the substitute judges be given forty-
eight (48) hours notice.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 119 (k) of Article 52 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1964 Replacement Volume), title "Justices of the Peace,"
subtitle "Trial Magistrates System," be and it is hereby repealed and
re-enacted with amendments, to read as follows:
119.
(k) Prince George's County.—The substitute [judge] judges of
the People's Court of Prince George's County shall receive as com-
pensation six hundred dollars ($600.00) per year in addition to the
pro rata amount which is paid to a full-time judge of the People's
Court for the time such substitute actually spends sitting as a sub-
stitute. The substitute judge shall serve in the event of the temporary
absence or inability of a judge of the People's Court, and shall sit in
such judge's place and stead during the period of his absence or
inability, and shall have the same power and authority and be subject
to the same duties and responsibilities as the judge for whom he is
sitting. Upon request by any judge THE CHIEF JUDGE of the Peo-
ple's Court, the substitute judge [may] shall sit at such time and place
as [is necessary] directed by the Chief Judge of the People's Court
