NOT MORE THAN FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS ($50,000)
SHALL BE EXPENDED BY THE ATTORNEY GENERAL IN
ANY YEAR FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS SUBTITLE.
26. 24.
(A) The Attorney General shall be authorized from time to time
to recommend to the Governor and the General Assembly legislation
to protect the public from fraudulent promoters and the schemes
which they propose.
(B) THIS SUBTITLE SHALL BE ADMINISTERED BY THE
DIVISION OF CONSUMER PROTECTION CREATED UNDER
THE AUTHORITY OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL OF MARY-
LAND.
THE ATTORNEY GENERAL OF MARYLAND IS HEREBY
AUTHORIZED AND DIRECTED TO APPOINT AN ADDITIONAL
ASSISTANT TO PERFORM THE DUTIES OF SPECIAL ASSIST-
ANT ATTORNEY GENERAL IN CHARGE OF CONSUMER PRO-
TECTION, WHOSE ANNUAL SALARY SHALL BE PROVIDED
IN THE BUDGET. THE ATTORNEY GENERAL IS FURTHER
DIRECTED TO EMPLOY SUCH INVESTIGATORS AND CLERI-
CAL STAFF AS HE DEEMS NECESSARY TO CARRY OUT THE
PURPOSES OF THIS SUBTITLE.
In any action brought under the provisions of this Act, the At-
torney General is entitled to recover the costs thereof for the use
of the State.

If any provision of this Act or the application thereof to any per-
son or circumstance is held invalid, the invalidity shall not affect
other provisions or applications of the Act which can be given effect
without the invalid provision or application and to this end the pro-
visions of this Act are severable.
THIS SUBTITLE SHALL BE KNOWN AND DESIGNATED AS
THE "CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT."
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.
