association with the greatest number of members who are residents
of said county and who maintain their principal office for the prac-
tice of law in the county.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.

CHAPTER 35
(Senate Bill 51)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 40 (n) of
Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1966 Supplement),
title Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact," subtitle "State's
Attorney," correcting an error in the laws relating to the salary of
the State's Attorney for Howard County.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 40 (n) of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1966 Supplement), title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact,"
subtitle State's Attorney," be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
40.
(n) In Howard County, (1) the State's Attorney's salary is eight
thousand five hundred dollars ($8,500).
(2) The State's Attorney may appoint a deputy State's attorney,
to serve at the pleasure of the State's Attorney. The deputy State's
attorney's salary is six thousand dollars ($6,000.00). He has the
same legal powers as the State's Attorney to represent the State
before the grand jury and at the trial of criminal proceedings.
(3) The State's Attorney may appoint an assistant State's attor-
ney, to serve at the pleasure of the State's Attorney. The assistant
States attorney's salary is four thousand five hundred dollars
($4,500). He has the same legal powers as the State's Attorney to
represent the State before the grand jury and at the trial of criminal
proceedings.
(4) The County Commissioners shall provide the State's Attor-
ney with an appropriate office and such stenographic and secretarial
services as may be necessary.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.
