(2) The State's Attorney, with the approval of the judge of the
Circuit Court for the county, may appoint a deputy State's attorney
[and an assistant State's attorney to serve at the State's Attorney's
pleasure. The deputy State's attorney's salary shall be six thousand
dollars ($6,000.00) and the assistant State's attorney's salary shall
be three thousand dollars ($3,000.00). They]; and he may appoint
such number of assistant State's attorneys and other staff personnel
as may be approved by the Board of County Commissioners from
time to time. All such appointees shall serve at the State's Attorney's
pleasure. The salaries and compensation of such persons shall be as
approved by the Board of County Commissioners from time to time,
except that the salary of the deputy State's attorney shall not be
less than six thousand dollars ($6,000.) yearly. The deputy State's
attorney and the assistant State's attorneys shall have the same
legal powers as the State's Attorney to represent the State before
grand juries and in the trial of criminal proceedings.
(3) The Board of County Commissioners shall pay all reasonable
expenses for the conduct of the office of State's Attorney.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.

AN ACT to add a new Section 265A (1) to the Code of Public Local
Laws of Harford County (1965 Edition, being Article 13 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Harford County,"
subtitle "Harford County Police Department," to follow immedi-
ately after Section 265A (k) thereof, as said section and subtitle
were enacted by Chapter 525 of the Acts of 1966, specifying cer-
tain duties and powers of the police employees of the Police De-
partment of Harford County and relating generally to the powers,
duties, and functions of the employees.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a new Section 265A (1) be and it is hereby added to the Code
of Public Local Laws of Harford County (1965 Edition, being Article
13 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Harford
County," subtitle "Harford County Police Department," to follow
immediately after Section 265A (k) thereof, as said section and sub-
title were enacted by Chapter 525 of the Acts of 1966, and to read
as follows:
265A.
(l) It is the duty of police employees of the Harford County Police
Department, within Harford County, to prevent and detect crime, to
apprehend and arrest criminals, to enforce the criminal laws and the
motor vehicle laws, and to perform related duties. They are peace
officers and in any and all parts of Harford County have full powers
as such with respect to criminal matters and the enforcement of
