ance Law," subtitle "Benefits," amending the law relating to un-
employment benefits payable to certain former members of the
armed forces to include widows SURVIVING SPOUSES of such
members who have not remarried.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 5A of Article 95A of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1964 Replacement Volume and 1966 Supplement), title "Unem-
ployment Insurance Law," subtitle "Benefits," be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

5A.

No member of the armed forces of the United States who has been
released from active duty [and] , or widow of such a member who
has not remarried,
who is receiving either retirement, retainer, or
disability benefits from the government of the United States as a
result of such active duty, and who is otherwise qualified to receive
benefits under this article shall have such benefits reduced as a
result of said retirement, retainer, or disability payments from the
government of the United States.; AND THE PROVISIONS OF
THIS ARTICLE SHALL EXTEND TO A SURVIVING SPOUSE
OF SUCH MEMBER PROVIDED SUCH SPOUSE REMAINS
UNMARRIED.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.

CHAPTER 163

(Senate Bill 21)

AN ACT to add new Section 11(d) to Article 59 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and 1966 Supplement), title "Luna-
tics and Insane," subtitle "Insanity as a Defense in Criminal Cases,"
to follow immediately after Section 11(c) thereof, authorizing the
Commissioner of Mental Hygiene to designate any QUALIFIED
AND EXPERIENCED psychiatrist on the staff of the Department
of Mental Hygiene, including the staff of any hospital under its
jurisdiction, to conduct the sanity examinations authorized by law.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 11(d) be and it is hereby added to Article 59 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and 1966 Supplement),
title "Lunatics and Insane," subtitle "Insanity as a Defense in Crim-
inal Cases," to follow immediately after Section 11(c) thereof, and to
read as follows:

(d) Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the con-
trary, the Commissioner of Mental Hygiene may designate any
