1724                            JOINT RESOLUTIONS

to establish two rest area information centers at different highly
travelled places along the
State's primary or interstate roads system
as soon as possible; and be it further

Resolved, That those rest area tourist information centers should
be constructed and maintained by the State Roads Commission, and

that the Economic Development Department should be responsible
for staffing them and insuring an
adequate supply of attractive
tourist information.

ROADS COMMISSION IS REQUESTED AND URGED TO
ESTABLISH AN OFFICE OF HIGHWAY TRAVEL INFORMA-
TION TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DISSEMINATION
OF CURRENT AND PERTINENT INFORMATION ON
WEATHER, ROAD AND OTHER TRAVEL CONDITIONS;
ON TOURIST ATTRACTIONS, RECREATIONAL AND CUL-
TURAL FACILITIES; AND BE IT FURTHER

RESOLVED, THAT THE STATE ROADS COMMISSION IS
REQUESTED AND URGED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY
TO ESTABLISH HIGHWAY TRAVEL INFORMATION CEN-
TERS ON TWO DIFFERENT SITES TO BE SELECTED
JOINTLY BY THE STATE ROADS COMMISSION AND THE
MARYLAND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
ALONG THE STATE'S PRIMARY OR INTERSTATE ROADS
SYSTEM AS SOON AS POSSIBLE; AND BE IT FURTHER

RESOLVED, THAT THESE HIGHWAY TRAVEL INFORMA-
TION CENTERS SHOULD BE CONSTRUCTED AND MAIN-
TAINED BY THE STATE ROADS COMMISSION; THAT SUCH
CENTERS SHOULD BE STAFFED AND SUPERVISED BY
THE REQUESTED OFFICE OF HIGHWAY TRAVEL; BUT
THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
SHOULD COOPERATE IN THE RECRUITING, INSTRUCTION
AND TRAINING OF STAFF FOR SUCH CENTERS; AND
THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR INSURING AN ADEQUATE
SUPPLY OF ATTRACTIVE TOURIST LITERATURE; AND
BE IT FURTHER

RESOLVED, THAT COPIES OF THIS RESOLUTION ARE
SENT TO THE STATE ROADS COMMISSION AND TO THE
DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT.
