18-1.

[All children, who attend any parochial schools in the county,
which schools do not receive state aid, and who reside on or along
or near to the public highways of the county, on which there is now
or hereafter operated a public school bus or conveyance provided
by the board of education of the county for transporting children
to and from the public schools of the county, shall be entitled to
transportation on such buses or conveyances as now are or may
be hereafter established, operated or provided by the board of educa-
tion of the county for transporting children to and from the public
schools of the county; and the same shall be provided for them by
the board of education of the county; subject to the conditions
hereinafter set forth, from a point on the public highways nearest
to or most accessible to their respective homes to a point on the
public highways nearest or most accessible to their respective
schools, without changing the routes of the buses or conveyances
now or hereafter established by the board of education of the county
for transporting children to and from the public schools and such
transportation shall be provided by the board of education, as afore-
said, for all the children attending schools described herein, upon
the same terms and conditions as now are or as may be hereafter
established by the board of education of the county for children
now attending public schools.] Whenever there are children at-
tending a school other than a public school, which schools do not
receive state aid, except such school as is operated for a profit in
whole or in part, and such children are living more than one mile
from the school house they regularly attend; the board of education

of the county may make rules and contracts for the for the transportation

of such children to and from school. SUCH CHILDREN SHALL
BE TRANSPORTED ALONG REGULAR ROUTES AS DETER-
MINED BY THE BOARD OF EDUCATION TO SUCH SCHOOLS
AND THE BOARD OF EDUCATION SHALL MAKE SUCH
RULES AND CONTRACTS FOR THE TRANSPORTATION OF
SUCH CHILDREN TO AND FROM SUCH SCHOOLS AS SHALL
BE NECESSARY; BUT IN NO EVENT SHALL SUCH CHILDREN
BE TRANSPORTED ACROSS THE ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY
BOUNDARY LINES FURTHER THAN ONE (1) MILE.

The [county commissioners are] county council is hereby au-
thorized to levy and appropriate annually sufficient funds to defray
any costs incurred by it in carrying into effect the provisions of
the preceding section and for the establishment of new bus routes for
transporting children to and from the public schools of the county,
and schools other than public schools which schools do not receive
state aid except such schools as are operated for profit in whole or
in part, if in their discretion the board of education of the county
and the [county commissioners] county council deem it desirable
to establish new routes and to purchase additional buses for such
transportation. The transportation of children to and from schools
other than public schools [not receiving state aid] which schools
do not receive state aid except such schools as are operated for
profit in whole or in part
shall be upon such reasonable terms and
conditions as the board of education may from time to time deter-
mine, but in no event shall the amount charged children attending
