with the provisions of Section 486-1 of this subtitle, the said company
and or title attorney shall forfeit to the State the sum of $100.00, to
be recovered with costs in a civil action to be prosecuted by the
Attorney General who shall prosecute such actions whenever it shall
appear that Section 486-1 has been violated.
(C) THE ORIGINAL SIGNED STATEMENT REQUIRED BY
SUBSECTION (B) OF THIS SECTION, TOGETHER WITH A
COPY OF THE NOTICE REQUIRED BY SUBSECTION (A) OF
THIS SECTION SHALL BE RETAINED BY THE TITLE INSUR-
ANCE COMPANY FOR A PERIOD OF THREE (3) YEARS FOL-
LOWING THE ISSUANCE OF THE TITLE INSURANCE POLICY.
SUCH STATEMENT AND NOTICE SHALL BE AVAILABLE FOR
INSPECTION BY THE COMMISSIONER UPON REQUEST.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.

AN ACT to add new Section 482B to Article 48A of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1961 Replacement Volume and 1966 Supple-
ment), title "Insurance Code," subtitle "28. Casualty Insurance,"
to follow immediately after Section 482A thereof, to specify the
conditions and the grounds under which insurance companies may
cancel or refuse to renew motor vehicle liability insurance policies,
to provide for the manner of cancellation or refusal to renew,
no limit liability under such policies for cancellation or refusal to
renew, and to make communications regarding cancellations or
refusal to renew under this Act privileged.
AN ACT TO ADD NEW SECTION 240B TO ARTICLE 48A OF
THE ANNOTATED CODE OF MARYLAND (1964 REPLACE-
MENT VOLUME AND 1966 SUPPLEMENT), TITLE "INSUR-
ANCE," SUBTITLE "15. UNFAIR TRADE PRACTICES," AND
TO FOLLOW IMMEDIATELY AFTER SECTION 240A THERE-
OF REQUIRING INSURANCE COMPANIES UPON CANCEL-
LATION OF NON-RENEWAL OF A POLICY OF MOTOR
VEHICLE LIABILITY INSURANCE TO GIVE THE INSURED,
UPON WRITTEN REQUEST, THE ACTUAL REASON FOR
THE CANCELLATION OR NON-RENEWAL OF THE POLICY
AND PROVIDING ALSO THAT THE EXPLANATION GIVEN
SHALL BE A PRIVILEGED COMMUNICATION.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 482B be and it is hereby added to Article 48A
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1961 Replacement Volume and
1966 Supplement), title "Insurance Code," subtitle "28. Casualty
Insurance," to follow immediately after Section 482A thereof, and
