(g) to Article 43 of the said Code (1965 Replacement Volume),
title "Health," subtitle "Chronic Hospitals and Infirmaries," to
follow immediately after Section 601 (f) thereof, each of said
sections providing an alternative method by which the Depart-
ment of Mental Hygiene may investigate and determine financial
condition, standards of eligibility and legal responsibility of pa-
tients, their responsible relatives, legal representatives, and their
respective estates.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 5 (g) be and it is hereby added to Article 59 of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement Volume), title
"Lunatics and Insane," subtitle "Lunatic or Insane Paupers," to
follow immediately after Section 5 (f) thereof, and that new Section
601 (g) be and it is hereby added to Article 43 of the said Code
(1965 Replacement Volume)', title "Health," subtitle "Chronic Hos-
pitals and Infirmaries," to follow immediately after Section 601 (f)
thereof, and to read as follows:
ARTICLE 59

(g) Nothing contained herein however shall prevent the Depart-
ment of Mental Hygiene from accepting in lieu of the requirements
of this section these THOSE requirements regarding the investiga-
tion of financial condition, standards of eligibility and legal responsi-
bility of patients, their responsible relatives, legal representatives,
and the estate of patients or legally responsible relatives, as set out in
the Maryland Medical Assistance Plan or the Federal laws and regu-
lations under Title XIX of the Social Security Amendment of 1965,
or other amendments thereto as may be enacted from time to time.
