as soon thereafter as may be convenient, choose one of their number
to be president, and shall each take an oath or affirmation faithfully
to discharge his duties; and they shall from time to time make such
dividends of the profits of said company as they may think proper.]
[201. Power to borrow money and execute bonds, debentures or
promissory notes.]
[Such company shall have power to borrow money on the credit of
the corporation, at a rate of interest to be agreed upon by the respec-
tive parties, and may execute bonds, debentures, promissory notes
or any other appropriate evidence of indebtedness therefor, and to
secure the payment thereof, may mortgage and pledge the property
and income of such company.]
[204. Principal office.]
[Such corporation shall, as soon as convenient after its organi-
zation, establish a principal office at some point on the line of its
road, and change the same at pleasure, giving public notice in some
newspaper, of such establishment or change.]
[211. Stopping at stations.]
[Every railroad company in this State shall cause all its trains
of cars for passengers to entirely stop upon each arrival at a station
advertised by such company as a station for receiving passengers
upon such trains at least one-half of one minute; and every company,
and every person in the employment of such company, that shall
violate, or cause or permit to be violated the provisions of this sec-
tion, shall be liable to a forfeiture of not more than one hundred nor
less than twenty dollars to be recovered in an action of debt, upon
the complaint of any person before any justice of the peace of the
county in which such violation shall occur; and in all cases in which
a forfeiture shall occur under the provisions of this section, the com-
pany whose agents shall cause or permit such violation shall be
liable for the amount of such forfeiture; and in all cases, the con-
ductor upon such train shall be held prima facie to have caused the
violation of this section which may occur upon the train in his
charge; said forfeiture to be recovered in the name of the State of
Maryland, for the use of the common schools.]
[218. Summary remedy for neglect of corporate duty; appeal.]
[If any person is or shall be aggrieved by any company incor-
porated by the laws of this State with authority to transport or
carry persons or property for hire, by reason of anything done or
omitted to be done by the said company, in violation or contravention
of its duty in regard to the transportation or carriage of property or
persons as aforesaid, it shall and may be lawful for such person to
apply by petition in a summary way to the circuit court for the county
or Superior Court of the City of Baltimore, where said company
shall have an office for the transaction of business, for relief against
the said alleged grievance; and thereupon the said court shall appoint
a short day for hearing the matter of the said petition, of which
said company shall have notice; and on hearing the parties, or in
case the said company shall fail to appear and show cause against the
said application, on examination of the said petition and the evidence
which shall or may be produced by the petition in support thereof,
