AN ACT to repeal Sections 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 12, 13, 16, 21, 24, and 27
of Article 19 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1966 Replace-
ment Volume), title "Comptroller", subtitle "In General", and to
repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 1, 2, 8, 9, 11, 23,
and 26 of said Article and subtitle to increase the amount of the
bond to be filed by the Comptroller of the Treasury, to provide
that the Comptroller may designate as many deputy Comptrollers
as he may deem necessary, and to generally simplify and mod-
ernize the provisions of said subtitle pertaining to the method of
payment of the salary of the Comptroller, the Comptroller's bond,
the reports required to be rendered and the records required to be
kept by the Comptroller, and the general operations of the Comp-
troller's office, and to repeal obsolete and repetitious provisions of
said subtitle.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 12, 13, 16, 21, 24, and 27 of Article 19
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1966 Replacement Volume),
title "Comptroller", subtitle "In General", be and they are hereby
repealed and that Sections 1, 2, 8, 9, 11, 23, and 26 of said Article
and subtitle be and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

The Comptroller shall file his bond and qualify by making the
declaration and taking the oath required by the Constitution and
laws of this State, before the Governor, on the third Monday of
January next ensuing his election, or as soon thereafter as prac-
ticable; and from and after the third Monday of January, 1967, the
said Comptroller shall receive a salary of twenty thousand dollars
($20,000.00) per annum [, payable monthly].

Before entering upon the discharge of his duties, [he] the Comp-
troller shall give bond to the State of Maryland, with security or
securities approved by the Governor, in the penalty of [fifty thou-
sand] two hundred thousand dollars, with condition that he will
[truly and] faithfully discharge [, execute and perform] all and
singular the duties of [him required, and which may be required by
the Constitution and laws] his office and will account for all funds
received under color of his office. The bond of the Comptroller, when
duly executed and approved, shall be recorded in the office of the
Clerk of the Court of Appeals, and certified copies, under the seal
of said court, may be used in evidence in any court in this State.
8.
He may employ clerks, assistants and other help, in such numbers
and at such salaries as may be provided for by the budget of appro-
priations, all of whom shall perform such duties as may be assigned
to them from time to time by the Comptroller. He may designate
