CHAPTER 427
(Senate Bill 121)
AN ACT to add a new Subsection (i) to Section 19 of Article 49B
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement Volume
and 1966 Supplement), title "Interracial Commission," subtitle
"Discrimination in Employment," to follow immediately after
Subsection (h), thereof, providing a penalty in the nature of a
fine for an employer, labor union or employment agency which
commits any act of intimidation or reprisal against a person who
files a complaint of unlawful employment practices under
Section 12.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a new Subsection (i) be and it is hereby added to Section 19 of
Article 49B of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement
Volume and 1966 Supplement), title "Interracial Commission,"
subtitle "Discrimination in Employment," to follow immediately
after Subsection (h) thereof, and to read as follows:
19.
(i) Any employer, employment agency, or labor union which
THAT commits any act of intimidation or reprisal against any per-
son claim WHO CLAIMS ing to be aggrieved by an alleged discrimi-
nation as to any of the subtitles of this Article on the basis of race,
creed, color or national origin,, and who IF SAID PERSON within
the provisions of these subtitles may SHALL make, sign, and file
with the Commission on Interracial Problems a complaint pursuant
to Section 12, upon conviction thereof in any court shall be deemed
guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be subject to a fine of from
twenty five ($25.00) dollars to NOT MORE THAN five hundred
($500.00) dollars in the discretion of the court.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1967.
