692                               LAWS OF MARYLAND                     [CH. 401

(1965 Supplement), title "Motor Vehicles," subtitle "Operation of
Vehicles Upon Highways," be and it is hereby repealed and re-en-
acted, with amendments, to read as follows:

314.

[No vehicle or combination of vehicles including the load thereon
shall exceed 55 feet in length inclusive of front and rear bumpers;
except that any utility poles being transported by or for any public
utility company shall not be subject to the limitations provided in
this section as to overall length, and further provided that piling,
and/or poles and mill logs shall not be subject to the limitations
provided in this section as to the overall length, and provided further
that vehicles or trailers transporting boats or vessels commonly known
as crew or rowing shells for use in interscholastic or intercollegiate
rowing contests shall not be subject to the limitations of this section
as to overall length. Nothing in this section shall prohibit the trans-
portation, by a combination of vehicles, of articles impossible of dis-
memberment which do not exceed seventy (70) feet in length.]

(a)    No vehicle or combination of vehicles including the load there-
on shall exceed fifty-five (55) feet in length inclusive of front and rear
bumpers, except as otherwise provided in this section.

(b)    A tractor and semi-trailer combination, engaged in the trans-
portation of motor vehicles, shall not exceed fifty-five (55) feet in
length inclusive of front and rear bumpers, but this limitation shall
be exclusive of the overhang of the transported vehicles.

(c)     The provisions of this section shall not apply to:

(1)    Vehicles or combinations of vehicles engaged in the trans-
portation of utility poles by or for any public utility company.

(2)    Vehicles or combinations of vehicles engaged in the trans-
portation of piling and/or poles or mill logs.

(3)     Vehicles or combinations of vehicles engaged in the trans-
portation of boats or vessels commonly known as crew or rowing
shells for use in interscholastic or intercollegiate rowing contests.

(d)    Nothing in this section shall prohibit the transportation, by
a combination of vehicles, of articles impossible of dismemberment
which do not exceed seventy (70) feet in length.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1966.
