J. MILLARD TAWES, Governor                     1361

Resolved, That the Governor be requested in his supplemental
budget to provide funds for the first year, and the Governor and
General Assembly are requested to continue a needed appropriation
for future years; and be it further

Resolved, That the Department of Game and Inland Fish, when
it has developed an adequate program, including necessary staffing
and procedures, shall recommend to the Governor, the Legislative
Council, and the members of the General Assembly, future legis-
lation, as necessary, to require that all individuals making application
for a first hunting license show evidence of completing an approved
firearm safety course.

(Senate Joint Resolution 26)

Senate Joint Resolution expressing appreciation to the National Park
Service of the United States Department of the Interior for its
contribution to the State of Maryland.

Whereas, The National Park Service, United States Department
of Interior, during the past fifty years of its existence has rendered
invaluable service to the people of the United States; and

Whereas, During its half century of continuous activity devoted
to the creation of a great system of national parks which has
preserved the natural beauty of our scenery, provided recreational
facilities for millions of our citizens, and recreated, restored and
protected for posterity many of our historic shrines and landmarks;
and

Whereas, The National Park Service program has acquired,
preserved, enhanced and operated within the State of Maryland
such historic shrines as Ft. McHenry, Antietam Battlefield, and
Hampton House; and

Whereas, The National Park Service has successfully strived to
acquire for preservation and development as a national seashore
recreation park a major portion of Assateague Island, part of which
lies within the State of Maryland; and

Whereas, The National Park Service has conferred a signal honor
on Maryland's Capitol City, Annapolis, by designating it a Registered
National Historic Landmark District and has designated certain
buildings and structures, including the Maryland State House, as
Registered National Historic Landmarks, it is fitting that this
service to the citizens of Maryland be recognized; now, therefore,
be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That this Body
commends the National Park Service of the United States Depart-
ment of the Interior for its contribution to the general welfare of
the Nation and expresses appreciation for the especial service it
has rendered to the State of Maryland; and be it further
