JOINT RESOLUTIONS

(House Joint Resolution 8)
House Joint Resolution urging an appropriately solemn and dignified
observance during 1967 in the United States by each of the States
of the Union of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the participation of
the United States in World War I.
Whereas, the year 1967 will be Fiftieth Anniversary of the entry
of the United States into World War I; and
Whereas, preparations are being made by numerous persons and
organizations to commemorate most of 1967 as a period of rededica-
tion of loyalty to the principles for which this country has always
observed and fought to preserve; and
Whereas, all of the patriotic organizations which have been
chartered by Congress will participate in programs marking the
anniversary, and under the direction of a national committee and
in the individual states through State committees, commemorative
services will be held and military units will participate by making
visits and conducting exercises in the various states; and
Whereas, the State of Maryland, as the birthplace of the Star
Spangled Banner, has always assumed a position of leadership in its
loyalty to and defense of the United States; and
Whereas, it is appropriate that we in Maryland call attention to
the Golden Anniversary of our participation in World War I and
urge the other states to commemorate the event with suitable pro-
grams during 1967; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the State of
Maryland urges that appropriately solemn and dignified observances
be held in the United States by each of the States of the Union of the
Fiftieth Anniversary of the participation of the United States in
World War I; and be it further
Resolved, That copies of this Resolution are sent to the Governor
of Maryland, the Adjutant General of Maryland, the Executive Officer
of the Maryland Veterans' Commission and the State DEPART-
MENT Commanders of the American Legion, the Disabled American
Veterans, AMVETS, VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS, CATH-
OLIC WAR VETERANS and the Jewish War Veterans.
