shall be held by the County Commissioners for a period of one year
from the date of sale. The County Commissioners shall pay this
balance to any person who files a verified claim prior to the expira-
tion of this one year period, establishing that he is the owner or
person entitled to the possession of the motor vehicle or part thereof.
If no such claim is filed within the one year period, the remaining
balance for the sale of the motor vehicle or part thereof shall be
transferred to the general funds of the county.

(f) This section does not apply or refer to vehicles in a regularly
operated gasoline service station, garage, or motor vehicle junkyard
or "graveyard".

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1966.

CHAPTER 704
(House Bill 1200)

AN ACT to add new Section 3(a-l) to Article 44A of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement Volume), title "Housing
Authorities," subtitle "In General," to follow immediately after
Section 3(a) thereof and to repeal and re-enact, with amendments,
Section 22 of said Article and subtitle, exempting from all taxes
the property of a non-profit or charitable corporation which is used
for the purpose of supplying low income housing in a manner sim-
ilar to that provided by public housing authorities.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 3(a-l) be and it is hereby added to Article 44A of
the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Replacement Volume), title
"Housing Authorities," subtitle "In General," to follow immediately
after Section 3 (a) thereof, and that Section 22 of said Article and
subtitle, be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, and all to read as follows:

(a-1) "Non-profit Housing Corporation" shall mean a non-profit
or charitable private corporation providing safe and sanitary dwelling
accommodations to persons of low income, in such manner us to be
essentially similar in operation and function to any authority or hous-
ing authority essential under this Article.

22.

The property of an authority or of a non-profit housing corporation
is declared to be [public property] used for essential public and gov-
ernmental purposes and such property and an authority shall be
exempt from all taxes and special assessments of the city, the State
or any political subdivision thereof. In lieu of such taxes and special
assessments, an authority shall make payments to the city or political
subdivision of the State in which a housing project is wholly or partly
