the administrator may present his petition to the circuit court of the
county or one of the law courts of Baltimore City where the person
is served with the subpoena or where he resides, whereupon the
court shall issue its order to such person requiring him to obey forth-
with the subpoena issued by the board ADMINISTRATOR or show
cause why he fails to obey the same, and unless the person shows
sufficient cause for failing to obey the subpoena, the court shall
forthwith direct the person to obey the same, and upon his refusal
to comply, he shall be adjudged in contempt of court and shall be
punished as the court may direct.
24. 22. If any person FAILS TO FILE ANY REPORT OR re-
fuses to deliver property to the administrator as required under this
Article, the administrator shall bring an action in a court of appro-
priate jurisdiction to enforce the delivery.
25. 23. The administrator shall create a division of his office, to be
known as the abandoned property office, for the purpose of admin-
istering the provisions of this Article. An appropriation shall be made
annually for the maintenance of such office, and shall provide suffi-
cient staff to adequately enforce the provisions of this Article. Other
divisions of the office of the administrator, as well as all State officers
and employees generally, shall assist in the enforcement of this
Article in connection with the performance of their normal duties.
26. 24. The administrator is hereby authorized to make necessary
rules and regulations to carry out the provisions of this Article.
27. 25. This act shall not apply to any property that has been
presumed abandoned or escheated under the laws of another state
prior to June 1, 1966, nor shall it apply to any travelers checks OR
ANY MONEY ORDERS, or to any monies as to which the provisions
of the dormant bank account law is applicable as found in Section 206
of Article 11 of this Code, as amended from time to time.
28. 26. This Act may be cited as the Uniform Disposition of Un-
claimed Property Act.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That all laws or parts of laws,
public general or public local, inconsistent with the provisions of this
Act are hereby repealed to the extent of any such inconsistency.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That if any provision of this
Act or the application thereof to any person or circumstance is held
invalid for any reason, such invalidity shall not affect the other pro-
visions or any other application of this Act which can be given effect
without the invalid provisions or application, and to this end, all the
provisions of this Act are hereby declared to be severable.
Sec. 4. And be it further enacted, That this Article shall be so
construed as to effectuate its general purpose to make uniform the
law of those states which enact it.
