diligent effort has been made to locate the person entitled to such
funds, or the person who paid the funds into the custody of the
Probation Department, be deposited with the Treasurer of Balti-
more City whose duty it shall be to receive such funds and to hold
them for a period of three years; provided, however, that in any and
all instances where checks or drafts issued by the Probation Depart-
ment of the Supreme Bench have remained uncashed and are out-
standing for a period of two years following the issuance thereof,
the funds representing the same, and any interest which has accrued
or been received on said funds, shall be paid over by the Probation
Department and deposited with the Treasurer of Baltimore City
whose duty it shall be to receive such funds and to hold them for a
period of three years as aforesaid.
Should any such claimant within
three years after said monies have been received by the Treasurer
prove to the satisfaction of the Chief Judge of the Supreme Bench
his legal and just claim to any part of such funds, the Chief Judge
may by proper order require that repayment shall be made by the
Treasurer to such claimant as specified in such order. It shall be the
duty of the Clerk of the Supreme Bench to issue a certificate under
the official seal of the court embodying the terms and provisions of
such order and to transmit the same to the Treasurer, which certifi-
cate shall constitute the latter's authority for making such repay-
ment. After the lapse of such three-year period all such funds re-
maining in the custody of the Treasurer shall be credited to the
general funds of the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1966.

CHAPTER 609
(Senate Bill 410)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 321 (a)
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Howard County (1965 Edition,
being Article 14 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland),
title "Howard County", subtitle "Taxes", subheading "Recordation
Tax", to increase the number of instruments upon which the recor-
dation tax shall be imposed. and to provide a method whereby taxes
shall be imposed on certain leases. AND PROVIDING GENERAL
LY WITH THE TRANSFER TAX IN HOWARD COUNTY.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 321 (a) of the Code of Public Local Laws of Howard
County (1965 Edition, being Article 14 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland), title "Howard County", subtitle "Taxes", sub-
heading "Recordation Tax", be and it is hereby repealed and re-en-
acted, with amendments, to read as follows:

321.

(a) A tax is hereby imposed upon every instrument of writing
conveying title to real OR LEASEHOLD property or any interest
