CHAPTER 78
(House Bill 421)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 262 (b) of
Article 48A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Replacement
Volume), title "Insurance," subtitle "17. Stock and Mutual In-
surers," to provide that a mutual company may not issue assessable
policies in Maryland if it issues nonassessable policies in Mary-
land or any other jurisdiction.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 262 (b) of Article 48A of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1964 Replacement Volume), title "Insurance," subtitle "17.
Stock and Mutual Insurers," be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

(b) A foreign or alien mutual insurer may issue nonassessable
policies to its members in this State pursuant to its articles of in-
corporation and the laws of its domicile, but subject to the require-
ments of this article with respect to the issuance of nonassessable
policies. No [foreign or alien] mutual insurer may issue assessable
policies in Maryland if it issues nonassessable policies in Maryland or
any other jurisdiction.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1966.

(House Bill 30)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 482A(h)
of Article 48A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1965 Supple-
ment), title "Insurance Code," subtitle "28. Casualty Insurance,"
amending the laws concerning the insolvency of certain insurers
in order to correct an error therein.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 482A(h) of Article 48A of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1965 Supplement), title "Insurance Code," subtitle "28.
Casualty Insurance," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted
with amendments to read as follows:

(h) The Commissioner may, in his discretion, designate or ap-
point a duly authorized representative or representatives to appear
and defend before any court or other body or official having jurisdic-
tion any or all actions or proceedings against principals or assureds
