and not more than fifty dollars ($50.00) for each death he investigates,
in accordance with the provisions of this article; such deputy medical
examiner, when it becomes necessary, shall have the power to deputize
any other physician in the county to act as deputy medical examiner
in his place and stead. In addition to the foregoing services, when-
ever any such deputy medical examiner shall be called as a witness
in any proceedings before the grand jury or in any criminal case, he
shall receive as compensation for his services as such a fee which
shall be determined by the court before which such proceedings are
conducted.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1966.

(Senate Bill 293)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 343 of
Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and
1965 Replacement Volume), title "Health", subtitle "Funeral Direc-
tors and Embalmers", providing for salaries for members of the
Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers and the secretary
thereof, and permitting the secretary of said Board to also be a
member thereof, and permitting the secretary, as a member of
said Board, to also serve as an inspector, and relating generally
to the State Board of Funeral Directors and Embalmers.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 343 of Article 43 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition and 1965 Replacement Volume), title "Health", sub-
title "Funeral Directors and Embalmers", be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
343.
The members of the said Board shall [serve without pay, but] be
paid the sum of Fifteen ($15.00) Dollars for each meeting which
they attend and shall have the power to appoint a secretary, who
may also be a member of the Board [at a salary of not more than five
hundred dollars ($500.00) per annum,] and BE paid such compen-
sation therefor as shall be provided in the budget, and one or more
inspectors whose compensation shall be fixed by said Board, which
together with the actual traveling, legal and other necessary expenses
of the Board and its officers, shall be paid out of the receipts as here-
inafter directed. The secretary, if he is a Board member, shall also be
permitted to serve as an inspector, and receive such additional com-
pensation as is provided by law.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1966.
