CHAPTER 693
(Senate Bill 297)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 120,
121B, AND 121C and 122 (a) of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Charles County (1964 Supplement, being Article 9 of the Code
of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Charles County", sub-
title "Fire Companies", Sections 120, 121B and 121C thereof
having been added by Chapter 887 of the Acts of 1963 and Section
122 thereof having been last amended by Chapter 739 of the Acts
of 1963; and to repeal Section 121 of said title and sub-title as
added by Chapter 887 of the Acts of 1963 and to enact new
Section 121 in lieu thereof, to stand in the place of the section
repealed, and to add new Section 121E to said title and sub-title
to follow immediately after Section 121D thereof, as added by
Chapter 887 of the Acts of 1963; to establish a fire tax rate to
be applied in assessing taxable property in Charles County, the
dates of payment of the proceeds thereof and the date of com-
mencement of such payments and specifying the minimum annual
amount to be paid thereunder, to provide for the continuation of
certain MAKE payments to designated fire departments and speci-
fying the dates of payment, to add two rescue squads to those pres-
ently receiving payments from Charles County, to require that
certain financial statements be submitted to the Board of Fire and
Rescue Commissioners of Charles County and that certain expendi-
tures be first approved by such Board and by the County Commis-
sioners of Charles County and providing that payments may be
withheld in the event of failure to comply, and relating generally
to the subject of fire companies in Charles County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 120, 121B, AND 121C and 122 (a) of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Charles County (1964 Supplement, being Article 9
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Charles
County", sub-title "Fire Companies", as Sections 120, 121B and
121C thereof having been added by Chapter 887 of the Acts of 1963
and Section 122 thereof having been last amended by Chapter 739
of the Acts of 1963, be and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments; that Section 121 of said title and sub-title as
added by Chapter 887 of the Acts of 1963, be and it is hereby
repealed, and that new Section 121 be and it is hereby enacted in
lieu thereof, to stand in the place of the section so repealed; that new
Section 121E be and it is hereby added to said title and sub-title to
follow immediately after Section 121D thereof, as added by Chapter
887 of the Acts of 1963, and all to read as follows:

120.

(a) The County Commissioners of Charles County are hereby
authorized and directed to levy for the fiscal year beginning July 1,
1965, and annually thereafter, a fire tax [at such rate as may be
required to produce an amount sufficient to sustain the various
volunteer fire departments in the county.] at the rate of Ten Cents
(10¢) per One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) of assessed value. Such
tax shall be levied on the assessed value of all taxable real and
personal property in Charles County.
