CHAPTER 667
(Senate Bill 600)

AN ACT to add a new Section 262A to the Code of Public Local
Laws of Baltimore City, being Article 4 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1949 Edition), title "Baltimore City",
sub-title "Criminal Court of Baltimore", changing the jurisdiction
of the Supreme Bench of Baltimore City, and reapportioning and
enlarging the jurisdiction of the Criminal Court of Baltimore,
pertaining to all motions for new trial, all motions in arrest of
judgment, or upon any matters of law determined by the judge or
judges of the Criminal Court of Baltimore, pursuant to the
authority as provided in Section 39, Article IV of the Constitution,
and to exempt the State and the defendant in the criminal court
of Baltimore City from the necessity of filing with the court a
transcript of testimony or a brief.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 262A be and it is hereby added to the Code of
Public Local Laws of Baltimore City, being Article 4 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland (1949 Edition), title "Baltimore
City", sub-title "Criminal Court of Baltimore", to read as follows:

262A. The judge or judges before whom any case is tried in the
Criminal Court of Baltimore (and the several parts thereof as here-
tofore, or may hereafter be instituted), shall have exclusive juris-
diction to hear and determine, and the said judge or judges shall hear
and determine, all motions for a new trial where such motions arise,
either on questions of fact or for misdirection upon any matters of
law, and all motions in arrest of judgment, or upon any matters of
law, determined by the said judge or judges.

In no case shall either the State or the defendant in the Criminal
Court of Baltimore (or any of said parts thereof) be required to
file a transcript of testimony or brief unless requested to do so by
the judge or judges who tried the case.

SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1965.

CHAPTER 668
(Senate Bill 602)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 594 of
Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-title "Procedure", pertaining
to motions for new trials in criminal cases in Maryland by deleting
therefrom the reference to the Supreme Bench of Baltimore City.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 594 of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
