and Sections 59-5 and 59-6 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Prince George's County (1963 Edition, being Article 17 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Prince George's
County", sub-title "Park and Planning Commission", as enacted
by Chapter 780 of the Acts of 1959 and last amended by Chapter
816 of the Acts of 1963; providing that the County Council of
Montgomery County and the County Commissioners of Prince
George's County shall each designate a member for the position of
Chairman or Vice Chairman of the Park and Planning Commis-
sion and the Commission shall by majority vote elect one of the
designees as Chairman and the other as Vice Chairman.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 72-9 and 72-10 of the Montgomery County Code (1960
Edition, being Article 16 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land), title "Montgomery County", sub-title "Chapter 72, Maryland-
National Capital Park and Planning Commission", sub-heading
"Article I. In General", be and they are hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments; and that Sections 59-5 and 59-6 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Prince George's County (1963 Edition,
being Article 17 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland),
title "Prince George's County", sub-title "Park and Planning Com-
mission", be and they are hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments; and all to read as follows:
72-9 (59-5).
Each member of the commission shall receive an annual salary of
forty-eight hundred dollars ($4,800) payable monthly from the ad-
ministrative tax collected by the commission. In the discretion of the
respective appointing authorities, a member of the commission from
each county may be designated to serve on a full-time basis, and this
member may be either the chairman or the vice-chairman of the com-
mission if the governing body so directs. For any such member desig-
nated to serve on a full-time basis, the governing body may authorize
such supplementary salary as it may deem appropriate, and this sup-
plementary salary shall also be payable from the administrative tax
collected by the commission.
72-10 (59-6).
[The commission, by a majority vote, shall elect a chairman and
a vice-chairman, who shall not be from the same county.] The County
Council of Montgomery County and the County Commissioners of
Prince George's County shall each designate a member for the posi-
tion of chairman or vice chairman. The Commission shall elect a
chairman and vice chairman from those members designated as
above. The chairman shall preside at meetings of the commission and
shall perform the other customary duties of such office. The vice-
chairman shall preside in the absence of the chairman and in addi-
tion shall be responsible for liaison between the commission and its
department of parks. The chairman and the vice-chairman of the
commission shall also serve as chairmen of their respective county
planning boards, as hereinafter in this sub-title constituted.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1965.
