select their own chairman. The Governor shall have the power to
remove members for cause. Any vacancy in the Commission shall
be filled for the unexpired portion of the term. Members of the
Commission shall receive no compensation for their services, but
they shall be reimbursed for necessary traveling and other expenses
incurred in attending meetings.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1965.

CHAPTER 553
(Senate Bill 439)

AN ACT to repeal Section 378 of Article 18 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Queen Anne's
County", sub-title "Roads Board", and to enact a new Section 378
in lieu thereof, to stand in the place of the Section repealed, which
Section was added by Chapter 418 of the Acts of 1959; to author-
ize the Queen Anne's County Roads Board to construct roads and
improve private roads and drainage along said roads at the request
of property owners along these roads, and to include the roads con-
structed or improved into the county roads system, to levy benefit
assessments against property owners, to make these assessments
a lien on property, to provide for collection of assessments, to pro-
vide the procedure to petition for construction or improvements,
and to provide for appeals from levy of assessments.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 378 of Article 18 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Queen Anne's County", sub-title
"Roads Board", be and it is hereby repealed, and that a new Section
378 be and it is hereby enacted in lieu thereof, to stand in the place
of the Section repealed, which Section was added by Chapter 418
of the Acts of 1959, and to read as follows:

(a) The County Roads Board of Queen Anne's County is hereby
authorized to construct roads and improve private roads and drainage
incident to said construction or improvement on or along private
roads, including roads in existing residential developments and sub-
divisions, after the approval by the County Commissioners of Queen
Anne's County of a petition of the majority of the property owners
whose property abuts on the road to be constructed or improved re-
questing that said roads be taken into the county roads system. In
the exercise of the powers granted by this section, the County Com-

missioners may by proper ordinance, passed in accordance with the

provisions of Section 3 of Article 25 of the Annotated Code of

Maryland (1957 Edition, as amended), BY ORDINANCE OR RESO-
LUTION adopt all necessary rules and conditions for the acceptance,
construction, and maintenance of such roads and/or other authorized
improvements by the county. Such ordinance
