sum not to exceed [$8,000] eight thousand five hundred dollars
($8,500).
Of this sum $1,000 is to be paid to the Allegany County,
Maryland, League for Crippled Children, Inc., and $1,000 is to be
paid to the Allegany County Historical Society, and the sum of $600
is to be paid to each of the following organizations: The American
Red Cross, the Allegany County Cancer Society of the Maryland Divi-
sion of the American Cancer Society, the Allegany County Branch of
Maryland Chapter, Arthritis and Rheumatism Foundation, the Alle-
gany County Rheumatic Fever and Heart Association, Inc., and the
sum of [$500] $1,000 to [each of the following organizations:]
Friends Aware of Handicapped Children, Inc., and the sum of $500
to
Allegany-Garrett Tuberculosis Association; and said Commission-
ers shall pay the sum of $2,400 to the County United Fund, Inc., and
the balance may be paid in the discretion of the County Commissioners
in whatever proportion they see fit to any one of the above organi-
zations.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
July 1, 1965.

CHAPTER 219
(House Bill 646)

AN ACT to authorize and empower the County Commissioners of
Allegany County to borrow an amount not to exceed One Million,
Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($1,500,000.00), and to issue
bonds, promissory notes or other certificates of indebtedness there-
for, for the purpose of acquiring land for the construction of
buildings and facilities for Allegany Community College, and for
the construction of buildings and facilities for the use of said
Allegany Community College, and purchasing facilities and equip-
ment needed for the operation of said Allegany Community College
in Allegany County and matters incident thereto.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That the County Commissioners of Allegany County, a body corporate,
in order to provide funds for the purpose of acquiring land for the
construction of buildings and facilities for Allegany Community
College, and for the construction of buildings and facilities for the
use of said Allegany Community College, and purchasing facilities
and equipment needed for the operation of said Allegany Community
College in Allegany County, are authorized and empowered to borrow
from time to time, in such amounts as the Board of County Commis-
sioners shall deem necessary, money on the faith and credit of said
county, and to issue therefor the promissory notes or bonds or other
certificates of indebtedness of the county; provided, however, that in
the aggregate said notes, bonds, or other certificates of indebtedness
shall not exceed the sum of One Million, Five Hundred Thousand
Dollars ($1,500,000.00). Said notes, bonds or other certificates of in-
debtedness shall bear a rate of interest not exceeding five per centum
per annum. If said sum or any portion thereof shall be borrowed by the
