210                               LAWS OF MARYLAND                       [CH. 199

"Board of Public Works", to follow immediately after Section 14
thereof, authorizing the Board of Public Works to acquire part or
all of the property and premises known generally as Carvel Hall
Hotel in the City of Annapolis, and relating generally to the terms,
conditions, and procedures for this acquisition and for the use of
the property.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a new Section 14A be and it is hereby added to Article 78A
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Public
Works", sub-title "Board of Public Works", to follow immediately
after Section 14 thereof, and to read as follows:

14A.

The Board of Public Works may acquire part or all of the property
and premises known generally as Carvel Hall Hotel, between Prince
George Street and King George Street in the City of Annapolis, and
all of the older portion of the improvements on the property, front-
ing on Prince George Street and known generally as the Paca House,
may be included in any such acquisition. The acquisition may be by
purchase, gift, or condemnation under the procedures in Article 33A
of this Code, with any funds available for this purpose from time to
time. Any portion or portions of the property acquired from time to
time shall be devoted, under the control of the Board of Public
Works or some other agency deemed by it as suitable under the
circumstances, to some public, governmental, artistic, historic, cul-
tural, or civic use or program.

PURSUANT TO THE TERMS OF SECTION 181-I OF ARTICLE
41 OF THE ANNOTATED CODE OF MARYLAND (1964 CUMU-
LATIVE SUPPLEMENT), THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS
IS AUTHORIZED TO SELECT THE MARYLAND HISTORICAL
TRUST AS THE AGENCY DESIGNATED TO CONTROL AND
OPERATE CARVEL HALL HOTEL AND/OR THE PACA
HOUSE AND FOR SUCH PURPOSES THE TITLE MAY BE
TRANSFERRED TO SAID MARYLAND HISTORICAL TRUST.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby
declared to be an emergency measure and necessary for the imme-
diate preservation of the public health and safety and having been
passed by a yea and nay vote supported by three-fifths of all the
members elected to each of the two houses of the General Assembly,
the same shall take effect from the date of its passage.
