House Bill No. 1204—Baltimore County Sheriff
AN ACT to add new Section 32 (g) to Article 66˝ of the Anno-
tated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and 1964 Supplement), title
"Motor Vehicles," subtitle "Administration-Registration-Titling," to
follow immediately after Section 32 (f) thereof, providing for the
issuance of special motor vehicle registration plates for members of
the Sheriff's Office of Baltimore County.
May 4, 1965.

Speaker of the House of Delegates
State House

Dear Mr. Speaker:
I have today vetoed House Bill 1204 and, in accordance with our
constitutional provisions, I am returning the same to you along with
my veto message.
The bill provides for the issuance of a special motor vehicle
registration plate by the Department of Motor Vehicles for the
private automobiles of the sheriff of Baltimore County and his
deputies. In addition to this, it provides that the letters and numerals
on the registration plate shall not be less than three inches high and
in strokes of not less than one quarter of an inch in width. It also
provides that the plate is to have an inscription designating the
owner's official office by letters and numerals in lieu of the numerals
required to be displayed on privately owned vehicles under the present
law.
It is my feeling that to write this bill into law would bring about

To comply with the size requirements of the letters and numerals
as stated in the bill would require the registration plate to be of much
greater size than would be displayed on other privately and publicly
owned vehicles. To print the word "sheriff" would require a plate
twelve inches long and to add "Baltimore County" would increase its
width to twelve inches. To follow through with this same formula,
