of the oyster industry, including its production, processing and
marketing aspects; that such study include an examination of the
legal and institutional arrangements governing oyster production
and their effects, on the economics of the industry and the conserva-
tion of its resource base; and that the study recommend measures
to increase production consistent with scientific conservation
principles, to expand markets, and generally to promote the healthy
economic growth of the industry; and be it further
Resolved, That the Board of Public Works be requested to provide
the funds necessary to defray the cost of this study; and be it further
Resolved, That a copy of this Resolution is sent to the Governor
of Maryland.

Senate Joint Resolution requesting the Legislative Council to appoint
a Commission to review The Report By The Governor's Commis-
sion To Study The Shortage Of General Practitioners In The
State Of Maryland, and to study ways and means of implementing
the recommendations of the Commission.
Whereas, The number of doctors engaged in the general practice
of medicine in this State has been diminishing at an alarming rate,
and
Whereas, Medical students who would normally replace doctors
engaged in the general practice of medicine as they die or retire
have increasingly indicated a preference for specialization so that
the shortage of general practitioners will in the future be accelerated
unless more medical students can be persuaded to enter the field of
general practice, and
Whereas, The scarcity of general practitioners denies to many of
the people of this State the protection afforded by having a family
doctor readily available to them and imposes a burden upon the
emergency rooms of the hospitals, which cannot properly be borne
by them, and
Whereas, The Governor's Commission To Study The Shortage
Of General Practitioners has advanced certain proposals for correct-
ing the present imbalance and encouraging young people entering
the field of medicine to go into general practice; now, therefore, be it
Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Legis-
lative Council be and it is hereby requested to appoint a Commis-
sion to review The Report By The Governor's Commission To Study
The Shortage Of General Practitioners In The State Of Maryland,
and to study ways and means of implementing the recommendations
of the Commission; and be it further
